My Morning Routine

Why You Need One to Build Consistency and Confidence in Your Life

The way you start anything in life depends heavily on the tone-setter. In a composition of music, the way a musical piece begins can let you know whether it will be up-tempo or more mellow. When you start a new project at work, if you go in with a negative attitude about it, chances are you will procrastinate and it won’t be your best work.

So, a morning routine is like the tone-setter for your day. The way you feel when you get out of bed, the first things you do, the way you think, all have an impact on how your day will unravel. Therefore, if you want to make healthy choices, if you want to feel energized, if you want to attract successful outcomes; it all starts in the AM.

I fell into a morning routine by accident. I did not even realize I had developed a routine until I started learning about them. As I fell deeper into the wellness world, I started introducing new things to start my day off right. I felt the results immediately. The coolest part is the way it has evolved to take a shape that works for me and my life. It’s as if I was doing a little dance with myself, dipping my toe into a little of everything, until I found my rhythm.

Where I learned the most would have to be from The Skinny Confidential Podcast. The couple, Lauryn and Michael Bosstick are the best interviewers, and are infamous for getting granular with their guests to learn more about the health and wellness space.

I am going to be sharing the intricacies of my morning routine but first, some quick tips:

Tip 1

DO not feel obligated to do something to even HAVE a morning routine. Some wellness hacks work for others some don’t, this is merely what works for me and I am happy to share it with others to see if they can take away some helpful info.

Tip 2:

DO not beat yourself up for not waking up early. Getting our body’s to adhere to a new circadian rhythm takes time, but if after you have tried it, it still just does not work for you then you are just not a morning person! And that’s okay ! The morning can be whatever it means for you.

Tip 3:

Not everything I say is law. I have heard and watched a million morning routines and they are all different because WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. With different needs and personalities. For example, I am not a journal-er, I know it works so well for most, but I could not stick to it so I use different modalities. I did not force myself to do something that I acknowledged, just did not work for me.

Tip 4:

DO not be married to your routine. I cannot stress more the importance of giving yourself grace and space. I was once married to my routine and felt so off during the days I did not do everything exactly the way I wanted. You cannot beat yourself up for not meditating for as long one day, or not making the smoothie you wanted because you ran out of time; the point of a morning routine is to provide you with the peace you need and can then carry throughout your day, not further your anxiety. When life things happen, I let them happen, so if I don’t have time in the morning to do everything, I can be okay with it and still allow myself to have a great day.

When I detail my routine, I will mark NN beside my Non- Negotiables which mean that if I am running super low on time, no matter what, I still do these few things.

My Morning Routine

Wake Up:

I wake up at 6:30AM-7:00AM everyday. I wake up to either the sound of the harp or the song my husband made for me. Once I have come to, I tell myself “Today is going to be a great day”…sure sounds weird, but try it, words carry frequencies. I squeeze my husband, put something comfortable on, and get out of bed.

Tongue Scrape:

I tongue scrape 4-10 times back to front using my copper tongue scraper before I drink any liquids. If you don’t know what a tongue scraper is don’t worry, blog post is coming.

Affirmations:

I grab my headphones and start immediately listening to this Youtube video that repeats positive affirmations using a powerful binaural frequency. This video is 20 minutes which is the perfect time for me but you can always swap for something shorter.

Hydrate:

While I am listening to my affirmations, I fill up my Larq water bottle and drink the entire thing throughout my morning. I start the kettle and make my hot lemon water. While I am letting that cool off, I poor 15 drops of my Liquid Chlorophyll from Whole Foods into a glass of cold water and drink the whole thing.

Kitchen:

Simultaneously listening to my affirmations, I prepare my husband breakfast and put his lunch that I had meal-prepped earlier in the week in a container for work. Then I start preparing my coffee.

Outside:

I like to spend time on my balcony especially in the morning when the air is fresh. My cat also loves it. So, I bring my coffee to me on the balcony and drink it while I read pages from whatever book I am reading at the moment. Presently, You are the Placebo by Dr. Joe Dispenza.

Meditate:

Once I finish my coffee, I grab my ear plugs again, set up my meditation pillow on my balcony and meditate for 15-20 minutes.

Movement:

After meditation, I change into workout clothes and I get on my yoga mat and depending on the day, I either complete a 30-minute yoga flow class and stretch or a 30-minute yoga flow class paired with a 15 minute muscle isolate training class like abs, glutes, or legs. Some days I do my own flow and others I learn from other teachers. As an instructor it is important to continue the learning process.

Juicing:

I green juice almost every morning. Recipes for this can often look different however, the staples of green apple, celery, cucumber, and ginger always look the same.

An example of the ingredients of a green juice I made recently.

Get Ready:

I shower in cold water always. I wash my hair only once a week sometimes once every two weeks because I blessed to not have greasy hair so my showers take me only around 5 minutes. I wash my face and start my skincare routine which includes a Vitamin C serum, eye brightener with hyaluronic acid, and an SPF Day cream. I Gua Sha my face using the serum.

Supplements:

I take a Vitamin B12, probiotic, Vitamin D, and an Ashwagandha+ Reishi tincture. I take all of these with some water.

Breakfast:

If I am feeling hungry or did a tougher workout then I would make myself breakfast at this point. Usually always either one of my classics: avocado toast, smoothie bowl, chia seed pudding, or apple oats. If I am in a rush, I may be eating breakfast while putting my makeup on however I try to rarely do that.

Put Myself Together:

If I have to wear makeup that day for some reason, I would do a quick makeup routine and fix my hair. I usually watch a YouTube video or listen to a podcast when I am getting ready.

Start The Day!

Now I either head to work or start my tasks for the day which can sometimes just be hanging out with my husband and cat watching TV shows. Whatever it is though I did what I had to do in the morning to show up as my best self for myself and others.
